When There Is A Death

Planning a Service for Your Loved One

Clergy

There are clergy personnel on staff at the Bridging Waters Pastoral Charge who are responsible to officiate at all funeral services held for United Church members. Outside ministry personnel must contact the minister and/or church board with respect to participating in the service. Upon request, the church building may be made available to other pastoral charges or denominations and their ministry personnel, for services for their parishioners.

Music

The use of hymns in the Service is encouraged, even when it is held in the Funeral Chapel. The hymns in a service ought to express strains of both grief and victory, and reflect the time of the Christian year in which it takes place. A list of suggested hymns is available from the Church Office or one of the ministers.

Lunch

The Nipawin United Church would be pleased to arrange a lunch. Contact the funeral home or the church office with any specific suggestions for the lunch and this information will be passed along to the lunch coordinator who will do their best to accommodate your request. The family is more than welcome to arrange their own catering.

Fees

Church: $150 contribution towards the life and work of the Church. An income tax deductible receipt will be issued.

Minister: $150 honorarium is suggested

Musician: $75.00 honorarium is suggested for the organist/pianist unless otherwise stated by them.

Soloist: $75.00 honorarium is suggested for the soloist, unless otherwise stated by the soloist.

Lunch:  $5 per person. Charges will be based on the numbers suggested by the family.

Memorial Fund

Church Memorial Funds were established to receive money donated in memory/honor of a loved one. The Memorial Committee, part of the Church Unified Board, identifies appropriate needs of the church, and has the final decision on how this money is expended. In the past, such things as hymn books, stained glass windows, microphone, photocopier, to name a few, have been purchased. The donations are recorded in the Memorial Book. Tax receipts are issued, from the Church, for monetary donations to the Memorial Fund.

A plaque with your loved one's name will be placed on the Memorial Board, which is kept on display in the Narthex (entryway of the Church.

Money could also be directed to the Mission and Service Fund or the World Development and Relief Fund, through the Memorial Fund.
